From a 3D printed flute, to a 3D printed violin, designers are showing how much home manufacturing can reach. Bård S D, has recently made a 3D printed electric guitar named the Zoybar Tor. Zoybar is an open R&D Lab for academic, hobbyist, and commercial developers to easily create music instruments and applications. Tor is after the Nordic word Thor, In Norse mythology, Thor is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also hallowing, healing, and fertility.
Bård S D designed the model using Blender, an open source 3D modeling software and a 3D printer. The sounds are brilliant and awesome. Check out this clip on Vimeo.

It’s got a strange body shape, for sure, and you need to add some of the hardware like pickups and machine heads, but it’s designed to sit comfortably on your knee and even has a tailpiece-style extension which allows you to rest it upright against a wall. An intrepid and skillful luthier may even be able to put metal frets on the neck.
