Solidscape, Inc., founded in 1994, produces 3D printers used to produce "wax-like" patterns for lost-wax casting/investment casting and mold making applications.
The printer can create parts with a layer thickness [mm] from .0127 to .0762 and a resolution of [dpi] 5,000 x 5,000 x 8,000 XYZ, which means high resolution with excellent surface finish. Therefore it can be used in the production of small parts and assemblies such as jewelry, medical implants, consumer electronics and power generation where vibrant details and outstanding surface finish are required.
Solidscape offers printers under the brand names of R66 plus, T76 plus and D76 and just recently the company sold its 1,000th T76Plus 3D printer to Pav & Broome Diamond Jewelers, one of the largest diamond and fine jewelry stores along the Gulf Coast.
"By bringing direct manufacturing in-house, small and medium-size businesses save time and money," said Fabio Esposito, vice president of marketing and sales for Solidscape.
"We are not limited to human capabilities. Now, there's just no design that you can't tackle with this, and it puts us above competition," explains Matthew Pav, co-owner of Pav & Broome Diamond Jewelers, speaking about his new T76Plus. "Man cannot make a piece with the same precision that you can do with the machine; it's just not possible."
The Solidscape printers use patent-protected, drop-on-demand ("DoD") thermoplastic ink-jetting technology and high-precision milling of each layer with the Company's graphical software, ModelWorks.
This Merrimack, New Hampshire based company was formerly known as Sanders Prototype, Inc. It had sales of $13.4 million in 2010. As of May 3, 2011, Solidscape, Inc. was purchased by Stratasys for $38 million.
