Shapeways annouced today it has raised a $6.2 million financing round led by Lux Capital, a New York venture capital firm. Lux is joining previous investors Union Square Ventures and Index Ventures, which contributed $11.1 million to Shapeways in 2010 and 2011.

"We seek investment opportunities to help turn technical breakthroughs into world-changing businesses, and see Shapeways at the forefront of bringing the magic of 3D printing to everyday consumers." said Josh Wolfe, Co-Founder & Managing Partner of Lux.

Up to now Shapeways has over 6,000 shops and over 150,000 members on the site and has printed over 1 million 3D products. With the new funding round, the company plan to help the Shapeways team grow and "bring creative commerce and 3D printing to everyone."

Shapeway community members have now access to over 30 material options including the recent launch of colored ceramics and Elasto Plastic for their design.

Great question, Glenn. If your deisgn includes multiple parts, as long as they can all be printed by Shapeways for under $200, it's fine if it requires mulutiple uploads to achieve the required bag of parts'. Just be sure to include an image of the assembled product.Adam

You might want to mention that Shapeways was caught numerous times shaving off designers sales and payments.... http://www.fabberforge.com/fabnews/2011/12/1/designer-spotlight-dizingof.html#comments 3 Weeks ago Shapeways Chief IT resigned and left my comment on his website with no reply... http://www.schouwenburg.com/goodbye-shapeways Shapeways has turned to the dark side with unethical business conduct towards its designers community.
