File2Part is a powerful software that allows you to load, fix, orient and scale 3D model files.

This easy-to-use program works with any 3D printer that uses g-codes (Printrbot, Makerbot, Mendel etc). It supports most of the 3D model formats: STL, PLY, VRML, 3DS, DXF, OBJ, LWO and Collada.dae (Sketch-up). After importing, simply press a button, the software will automatically check for printability, split parts into shells and fix errors. If some defects can not be automatically fixed, the program will tell you where an error is.

File2Part allows you to reorient the part and scale it to fit your build volume. For 3D printing it has also features like slicing (layers) preview window, setting job parameters, real-time shell-based layering retaining colors and textures, sending layers to the printer, print control panel (shows progress, with pause, resume and cancel buttons for printers that support it).

File2Part has launched a Kickstarter project for promoting the software. First 100 backers will get a Windows version of the software for only $39, Mac version $49. Linux version would be provided in the future. For $99 you can get unlimited upgrades with no time limit. Support their project here.
