In home canning, traditionally it is common to preserve foods, in particular, fruits, vegetables, and meats, by packing them into glass jars, also known as Mason jars. Alex English of Proto Paradigm, maker and 3D printing enthusiast released some free designs of 3D printable lids for Mason jars to demonstrate what you can do with a 3D printer.
1. Mason Jar Lid
You can easily find in many stores the plastic lids for Mason jars, but Alex's version has facets around the outside that you can better grip and turn it. The seal can hold the water even when you invert the jar (see the image below). But this lid is only designed for storing dry foods or non-food items, not for actual canning. If you like it, you can find the files for canning jar lids in both regular and wide mouth on Thingiverse.
2. Coin Slot Lid for Canning Jar
This is a lid with a coin slot. The slot is designed for US coins, but you can change the slot dimensions in the scad file. This lid was printed with PLA on a Makergear Mosaic.
3. Fruit Fly Trap Jar Lid
The fly trap lid was printed with a low, draft resolution on a Mosaic 3D printer with PLA plastic. Simply put fruit, juice, or syrup in a jar with this 3D printed lid on top. The flies can come in through the hole but can't escape.
4. Canning Jar Sprouting Lid
This lid can be used to grow radish, clover, bean, and other healthy, tasty sprouts. The holes on the sprouting lid allows you to drain off the water and rinse the seeds and sprouts.
5. Canning Jar Strainer Lid
This strainer lid for canning/mason jars is available for both regular and wide mouth. It is designed for straining the liquid off of any canned goods, such as kefir grains, or vanilla beans when making an extract, etc.
6. Fermentation Lid
This was motivated by this other version of the same thing made by Thingiverse user kutch.
This lid uses water to form an air trap that will let carbon dioxide and other gasses vent off of fermenting foods, while not letting in the oxygen that would spoil them.
This could be used for include sauerkraut, kimchi, ginger beer, or pickled vegetables (garlic, carrots, peppers, etc).
7. Can Strainer

This can strainer can be used to strain your canned goods by pressing it into the top of the open can.
8. Canning jar sippy lid

Thingiverse user chowderhead created canning jar sippy lid that turns a canning jar (need the ring, too) into a travel drinking jar.

My Oster blender will fit a regular mouth canning jar. I would like a m-f adapter that would have a male side like regular canning jars (2.5 in) and a female side fitting the wide canning jars (3 in). I have had the hardest time finding replacement lids for the ones that come with jar foods and rust. These are awesome. Are they for sale.
