With Christmas just less than a week away, it is time to start planning Christmas dinner. What about add something special that you would like to show off on your table: a 3D printed lamp?
Here's a 3D printed blossoming lamp thingiverse user Emmett Lalish designed and printed for this season. The lamp consists two parts, lampshades and stand. "This lampshade consists of 14 interlocking pieces printed at once. When you pull up on the top, the blossom opens, allowing more light out."
Emmett provided two design free for download on Thingiverse: Lamp Opaque (as in the picture) and Lamp Translucent. Lamp Translucent has a thin, solid inner surface instead of the grillwork, to act as a light diffuser when using translucent plastic.
The lampshade was printed on a Makerbot Replicator in PLA at 120 mm/s using the Sailfish firmware, and no support is required. Emmette uses a 3.8W, 200 lumen LED bulb to make sure the plastic doesn't overheat. See the video below:
