The Independent game development team Qubit Games in Taiwan announced that they would integrate 3D printing service into its upcoming iOS game "Space Qube".

The Space Qube is a voxel based retro shooting game that lets players create their own voxel space craft. The game is composed of two parts, one part is the game, another part is a voxel-creation kit.

The game part allows the player to control the space ship or anything the player created to shoot as many aliens as he can to get highest score and rewards. Players move the ship by tilting the iPad/iPhone and shoot by tapping the screen.

The voxel-creation kit contains a voxel model editor and browser. The voxel model editor allows players to create 16x16 or 32x32 size model on iPad or 16x16 size model on iPhone/iPod using a layered creation tool. The players can use browser to browse the voxel models uploaded by other players, download and rate the uploaded voxel models then modify them or use them to play game.

Space Qube's creator Owen Wu and Louis Lu said that by integrating the 3D printing service into the game, the users will be able to create any model they want on iPad/iphone and then send the file to the 3D printing company just by one click. The 3D model can be printed in different size and will be shipped to user's home directly.

The company will also start selling some of their 3D printed models online. Qubit Games chooses Belgium 3D printing company i.materialise as its first partner, more will be added in the future. The cost of 3D printing service will vary depending the model size and its complexity. For example a 7cm figure will cost about $20, plus shipping.

Below are some testing samples printed out on a 3D printer. This feature will be added in the first update of Space Qube.
