Mecube is an easy-to-learn 3D design mobile app to design and 3D print your own stuff. It is a voxel based 3D modeling tool that lets users create their own 3D model like playing with Lego blocks. You can add or remove cube(s), move or zoom the design, add or mix color etc.

When your design is complete you can save it as full color 2D and 3D files or upload your design to Shapeways to be 3D printed for a small fee.

When you submit a design to be printed using the Mecube Service, your design will be added to Mecube's Shapeways store. "This means your design will be publicly available in the Mecube Shapeways store for anyone to print, and any profits generated will go to and be the property of Mecube." writes Mecube. So if you do not want this to happen you can just use the Service to only export your design.

Mecube is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd / 4th / 5th generation), and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.

The man behind Mecube is Janos Stone, a visiting art professor at Northeastern University. He believes between apps like his and the possibilities 3-D printing enables, the trend is about to explode. "There's all this magic around 3-D printing that I really think is starting to get people's attention," said Stone.

Stone's goal is to teach everyone to be a 3D DIY designer to make 3D designs into solid objects using 3D printing.

Mecube also plans to launch the Mecube Game that uses a fun fast-paced puzzle game to engage people in 3D design and 3D printing. By achieving a high level of skill, players can win free 3D prints.

You can download the Mecube at iTunes shop here. Check out the Mecube tutorial below.

Hey Thanks! Just FYI, Shapeways and I are working on new APIs that allow Mecube to split profits for successful models and allow Mecubers to open there own Mecube shop. Early stages, but were getting there!
