The Star Wars – D-Tech Me experience will be returning to Disney's Hollywood Studios as part of its Star Wars Weekends this year.

The popular "cast yourself in Carbonite" option is brought back again, in addition, Disney is offering you the chance to put your face on a 3D-printed Stormtrooper figurine. You will need to pose for 10 minutes, Disney uses its high quality 3D face scanner to capture a 3D image of your face. That captured image is later sent to a high resolution 3D printer to create the figurine. In 7-8 weeks a 7.5-inch 3D printed figurine will be delivered to your home.

Each personalised Stormtrooper figurine costs $99.95 (plus shipping and applicable sales tax), the same price as the 3D printed carbonite figure last year. Guests will also receive either a Carbon-Freeze Me light-up band or a collector button.

The 2013 Star Wars Weekends are every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 17 to June 9, 2013. To book your experience, please call 407-WDW-TECH (407-939-8324) to set up your reservation.

Why pay $100? I'm sure you can find some Shapeway user who will make one for you for a lot less than that. And with 3D printing, how can Disney POSSIBLY enforce copyrights?
