The cost of 3D printers has dropped substantially, and the 3D printing technology has been used to make everything from jewellery to replacement jawbones. But the technology can also be used to manufacture weapons. Recently the 3D printed gun has raised a lot of concerns about disasters it may cause. But it's pretty clear that making weapons at home using 3D printers from commonly available materials is going to become much more commonplace in the near future.

James Hobson made a longbow out of an old pair of skis and some plastic parts printed solid out of ABS. The draw weight is around 25lbs (11.3kg). Of course one can also build a longbow without needing a 3D printer, but as 3D printing technology matures, we might soon see the day when nearly everyone will be able to print anything they desire, all within the privacy of their own homes.
