Conceptual artist Florentijn Hofman's giant rubber duck floated into HK on May.2, 2013 and captured the city's attention. Rubber Duck will float outside Ocean Terminal until June 9.

In collaboration with 3D Systems, manufacturer of rapid prototyping machines, Hong Kong's largest toy store chain Toys "R" Us held a "BYE BYE Duck Party" at its Tsim Sha Tsui branch shop, demonstrating 3D printing and 3D printed consumer products.

On site mini duck, with size of 6cm x 5cm x 5cm, were printed on 3D Systems' Cube 3D printers. Each 3D printed duck was sold for HK$488, with a "dim sum steamer", a nameplate and birth certificate.

From this letter, it's clearly stated that she did not obtain a bachelor's degree from Suzhou University. This means she faked this degree when she applied for UIUC in 1988.

Ping Fu accompanied her then-husband to Hongkong in 1994-1995, not 1993-1994. He served as visiting professor at Computer Science department, HKUST. She had no official assignment. http://www.cs.duke.edu/~edels/ She gave birth to their daughter in US in 1993, impossible to do anything in Hongkong then. Other than writing her memoir in Chinese, what she did in Hongkong was just to install Mosaic, which by then had been done thousands of times by students all over the world. It's not difficult, and too late to contribute to construction of the Supernet.

The Chinese statement just released will be published soon on its English website. Relevant evidences needed may be withheld for the time being as they involve Ping Fu's personal records. I was at HKUST when Ping Fu and her husband Herbert Edelsbrunner worked there from 1993 to 1994. Ping helped and consulted a group of us who started Hong Kong Supernet. Professor Shen was the founding head of the Computer Science Department and served in that position until 1995. He also served as Director of HKUST's Sino Software Research Center from 1992 to 1995, during which time he co-founded Hong Kong Supernet Limited, the first licensed commercial Internet service provider in Hong Kong. Supernet was the largest service provider in Hong Kong when it was sold in 1996 and became Pacific Internet.

Why would someone spend HK$488 for a 3D printed rubber duck when you can buy an ordinary rubber duck for much less? 3D printing is good for prototyping, not for daily consumables. When Ping Fu goes on saying it can be used to print cookies, chocolate, meat on her promotional video shows, I think she is misleading the general public.

The ducks and the baskets are printed on 3D Systems Projet x60 printers, the basket has a slot for custom name plate. The name plates are printed on Cube in store. There are other children friendly items designed by Ideo designers were printed on Cube in store. There is an education booth and desk where children and parents can touch and play with the Cubes and learn more about 3D printing. 3D Systems is committed to education, and we believe that our schools systems needs to educate both thinkers and makers. 3D Systems donated the Cubes at my request and I personally attended this wonderful event. I put a pink Dizigof's braided torus in the center to show math art to children, upon his complain, I promptly took down the model and credited him online in social media. This incidence has nothing to do with 3D system explore an artist, in contrary, I did it because I want more people expose to his wonder art and generosity (Asher put his work out free mostly). I hope we can clear this mis-understanding, and regain mutual respect and love of art and science.

The ducks were printed on a Zcorp machine not a cube. The containers look as they were printed on cubes, but some look as Zcorp prints too. 3d systems motto should be bait and switch. Seen it multiple times now.
