Makerbot's 3D files sharing website Thingiverse just got its 100,000th thing being published last weekend. Thingiverse was started in November 2008 by Zach Smith as a companion site to MakerBot Industries. As of November 2011 there were 15,000 designs uploaded to Thingiverse.

In January 2013 Makerbot launched the Customizer, a web app that lets anyone create unique things from a set of parameters and inputs. Users can change and customize that template into a unique new thing, right inside Thingiverse with slider bars and other simple tools. Then they can download and print it with a 3D Printer. Since then, according to Makerbot, uploaded and published 3D designs to Thingiverse have been rising steadily – from 35,000 items on Thingiverse in January 2013 – before the Customizer was launched – to 60,000 in March and 80,000 in April.

Up to now the site has more than 100,000 things uploaded and downloads are more than 21.1 million.

Thingiverse user jg952's "My Customized Message Keychain" becomes the 100,000th published thing on Thingiverse.
