Brooklyn startup 3D-printer company Solidoodle announced that its sales has reached $4 million since its launch in September 2011. Solidoodle, founded by aerospace engineer Sam Cervantes, released its $499 3D printer in the spring of 2012 and the pre-sale of its larger $799 model in mid November. Since then sales have continued to increase due to a growing consumer interest in 3D printing.
Solidoodle moved to its current factory location in Brooklyn, NY, last spring. In January 2013 the company launched its larger Solidoodle 3rd Generation 3D printer which can print up to eight-inch parts. The company also added sleeker aluminum Z platforms and custom motherboards to all its printers for stronger builds and more reliable performance.
In addition, during the past twelve months, Solidoodle has also reduced its factory lead time from four months to about two weeks. Up to now over 5,000 printers were shipped worldwide. "we have over 50 people under our roof, working on engineering, production, sales, support and marketing. It's been a very busy year and this is just the tip of the iceberg." says Cervantes.
Solidoodle is expanding its primarily internet-based business to include distributors and resellers, with existing and developing partnerships in the UK, Russia, Asia, South America, and Canada.
