Reprap Morgan is a concentric dual arm SCARA FDM 3D printer, designed and built by Quentin Harley. Harley made an announcement today that Reprap Morgan kit is now available for pre-order.

The price is ZAR 6,999 (USD706 / EUR541 / GBP463), much more expensive than we expected. Harley explains, "Now you see why the Morgan Project was born. Here in South Africa you pay even more than that for an Ecksbot kit (Mendel Prusa clone). This is primarily because the electronic building block cost about 80% (or more) of the kit price."

"My advice would be to get the sources, and get your components locally. You might be able to build one for under $300 even without bulk buying. Also remember that the price to courier from South-Africa will probably be steep… There will undoubtedly be US sources of Morgan soon." says Harley.

A full RepRap Morgan 3D printer Kit includes:

  • Lasercut Aluminum Base (upgrade from the Plywood)
  • Aluminum Printbed
  • Electronics Kit with Stepper Drivers
  • 4 x Stepper Motors - two of which are specifically manufactured for Morgan's X/Y Axis (0.9deg for increased resolution) (To be confirmed)
  • Hotend
  • PTFE Bowden Tube
  • Power Supply
  • Assembly Hardware
  • Bearings
  • Smooth Rods
  • Threaded Rod
  • PVC Pipes cut to length
  • Full set of Printed Parts

If you live close to Gauteng, South Africa, you can join a free build-course at House4Hack Centurion in August, Harley will help you build up your Morgan.

Thanks to Julio for the tip!

Still an economical machine. I have about $100 US in my Morgan frame assembly. That's everything except electrics. Sadly electronics prices are rather fixed...

706USD .. ?? Then How did this project win GADA Price..

Well, so much for that 200.00 US chatter... we shot right back up @ 700 once it crossed into the US. Pity, I was planning on this being my next build project.
