Japanese companies, DMM.com, Team Lab and Nomad announced today the launch of 3D printing service, called "DMM 3D printing". The service starts today and DMM.com is responsible for the whole operation. All 3D models uploaded by customers will be produced on professional 3D printers at the "3D Printing Center" and then delivered to their address.
DMM.com, the DMM Corporation (or "Digital Media Mart") is an entertainment portal site in Japan, a major distributor of movies, cartoons, idol starts, comics in Japan for both sales and rental and it also provides streaming & download services and Live Chat. DMM.com's traffic is ranked #1,730 globally, #87 in Japan, with approximately 550,000 daily unique visitors.
As a development partner, Digital creation & Concept creation site Team Lab is working on the system and building services planning. Tokyo based Nomad is responsible for the total operation of 3D Printing Center.
The DMM 3D Printing offers customers a wide variety of 3D printing materials, from full-color plaster, acrylic resins, nylon (polyamide), to silver and titanium. The maximum object size is 790 x 580 x 380 mm.
Registration to the site is required to use the service. The cost of the 3D printing service varies from the size and shape of objects and the material it used. According to DMM.com, the price will be the same as similar services abroad. The delivery time is min. 7-9 working days, and DMM.com offers free shipping for all domestic orders.

I hope the prices are reasonable. I would use North American custom 3D printing, but the prices are way too expensive to be taken seriously for larger objects (regardless of the material), especially given the actual costs of the raw materials. Even at home printers have ridiculously expensive consumables.
