The upcoming customizable, assembled-in-the-USA Moto X will be "the first smartphone that you can design yourself," says Motorola, the Google-owned handset maker. It promises that users will be able to design phones as unique as their personalities.

For showing its love to makers, Motorola recently commissioned a Sprinter van and filled with hackable phones, latest prototyping tools and software (3D printers, laser cutters, scanning systems and soldering stations, etc) to drive around the country. This 'Make-with-Moto' truck will stop at 12 American college campuses and four Maker Faires, to show how people can use 3D printers and other tools to build their own smartphone's components.

3D Systems just announced that it has officially participated in this road trip across America. Not only the filament-based Cube printers are loaded in the truck, the MAKEwithMOTO has also got the Projet 3500 HD Max, which is a high-res, inkjet-based 3D printer, and the Projet 460+, which is a powder-based, full color 3D printer, on it.

"And coming soon to the MAKEwithMOTO truck are a 3D scanner, some haptic input devices..." says the MAKEwithMOTO team. Not to mention a fabulous 3D-printed guitar...

The van has already been to California, Nevada, Texas, and Missouri and will be continuing their tour in Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

If you want to see the van in your local city, check out the schedule here.
