How can 3D Printing save time and money for small businesses?
A few years ago, a 3D printer would have cost you at least $10,000, but now you can buy a consumer 3D printer for less than $2,000, and professional printers start at $5,000. Small business can use 3D printing for making prototypes for products, promotional items, replacement parts for appliances and machinery etc.
And one case study from UC Davis—which compares in-house 3D printing jobs to buying from a supplier—reveals that you can recoup 18 percent of the cost of a printer in just one job. Plus, you don't have to wait for the product to be shipped!
Lemon.ly has made an infographic with Autodesk which highlights how 3D Printing can save time and money for small businesses as well as fun facts surrounding the industry. Please see the image below - Click to enlarge.

Not all traditional manufacturing is subtractive. Injection molding and metal casting might be considered additive, even if you had to use subtractive to make the original mold.

No Makerbot is not using 3D Printing to make their 3D Printers.... I have a Replicator 2 and there are no components that were printed.
