Given all the rumors, and noises in the forums, it's almost certain that Ultimaker is going to launch Ultimaker², a faster, more accurate, more efficient, quieter 3D printer than the original.

Almost certainly true:

The Ultimaker² will be white

The Ultimaker² is prettier. All white, with glowing sidewalls and a smooth minimalism that makes printing pleasant in the home or a creative workspace.

Quieter
While printing, the Ultimaker² produces only 49 decibels of sound (three times a whisper).

New features

New features include CNC-milled casing, an easy-to-use OLED display, a glass and aluminum build platform and faster print cooling, which leads to more streamlined creations.

Supporting more materials

The Ultimaker² will support printing multiple materials including PLA, ABS and PVA.

WiFi compatible

It is WiFi compatible, too. Hook up a Raspberry Pi or Doodle3D WiFi Box and voila: print remotely from a mobile device, laptop or computer.

Slightly bigger

Printing envelope is 8.9x8.9x8.1 inches (226 x 226 x 206 mm)

Printer size: 14.1x13.3x15.3 inches (358 x 338 x 389 mm)

Cura, a fast slicing solution

Developed by David Braam of Ultimaker, Cura includes its own slicing engine and can pre-processes 3D files much faster than other typical open source slicing engines. Cura offers three printing options: Draft for quick prototypes, Medium for fine tuning and High Quality for a polished print that's ready to go to shop. "It is so fast that the engine finishes processing before you have the opportunity to press print," says Ultimaker Co-Founder Erik de Bruijn.

On Friday, Sept. 20, Ultimaker is going to launch Ultimaker² at Brooklyn Navy Yard's New Lab. The retail price for Ultimaker² is US$2,500 (EUR1,870 / GBP1,567).

Online printing community

In keeping with its open-source DNA, Ultimaker is also launching YouMagine.com, the first online printing community that lets users not just download files but build on each others' work. Instead of sharing only .stl files, YouMagine.com encourages the community to share native files as well. YouMagine.com is the first major 3D-printing ecosystem that supports collaborative designs, sponsored challenges and a public space for international projects. Martijn Elserman, Co-Founder of Ultimaker says YouMagine.com will become like Google Docs with its synchronized, shared editing sessions. To make the creation experience even easier, Ultimaker is seeding YouMagine.com with open-source design apps so that users without any programming experience can customize the tools.

"Kids have made millions of interactive games and animations without knowing how to code. This is similar, except that you're redesigning reality, instead of creating things that remain purely virtual," says Elserman.

Wow on the WiFi compatible lameness. I guess my USB mouse is WiFi compatible because it connects to a computer that uses WiFi. If the marketing is this shaky, then I wonder how many other dubious embellishments are in the marketing and the product.

I'm curious on who ultimaker will copy solutions ;]

It's not "WiFi Compatible" if it requires a Raspberry Pi with a WiFi dongle. Just about every desktop 3D printer is WiFi compatible by this definition, meaning that this isn't a point of differentiation.
