At Maker Faire Rome last weekend Marek Senický showed off his latest project the FilaMaker, a personal filament producing machine that grinds old plastic and make new filament for your 3D printer.
"The FilaMaker wowed the crowd. People loved the project, and everybody is asking how much it cost and when they can buy it." Marek said.
According to Marek, this first prototype of the FilaMaker extrudes 1 meter per minute, which was tested with 3mm ABS at Maker Faire Rome to check the quality. The dimensional tolerance of the filament is within 0.05mm and it has no air bubbles.
The FilaMaker is able to crash plastic, metals, glass, rocks and there are three models under development, stainless steel, tool steel and mild steel.
"I made FilaMaker because I am sick of the filament prices. I have made this in my free time just to show the world that it is possible (to create such a device). And it is open source." said Marek.
The target price of FilaMaker is around EUR500, and for being able to keep this price Marek plans to start a crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo soon for purchasing some machinery. Meanwhile more materials, different sizes and profiles will be tested within this month.
"Don't forget this extruder can extrude any kind of profile with any kind of thermoplastic. Just change the nozzle and go for a different shape." Marek told us. Marek expects the final version will get a strong motor which can extrude at more than 2 meter per minute at 3 mm diameter. "The weight will be reduced from 24 Kg to 19 Kg and the whole machine will be driven with Arduino. In front of the FilaMaker you can find a expansion mounting plate for adding some future accessories like injection molding module etc."

The shredder and extruder are both stand alone or you can take the whole system. So total 3 products.

Yes, shredder should be optional and stand alone. I think it is expensive and heavy part you don't need if you buy pellets Of course if you buy pellets the ecology is gone, but if you need a constant color and quality you cannot be recycling unless you recycle always the same material
