German RepRap releases today new single DD2 extruder for 3D printers. Small and compact, the new Single DD2 Extruder offers a significantly higher torque than its predecessor. German RepRap's test shows that its filament could be processed with speed of 100mm/s, and some filaments may yield good printing results with possible 130 mm/s.

According to the company, its intelligent and self-adjusting clamping device automatically ensures the right contact pressure of the filament to the feed roll. it is also possible to create high pressure with the help of mechanical interlock. One-Handed Operation makes inserting new plastic filament to the extruder easier.

The mounting support is designed for hot ends with a diameter of 16mm and could be assembled on most 3D printers. Due to its compact design, it is also suitable to be mounted as a dual extruder.

The DD2 Extruder costs

  • 89.95 Euro incl. 19% VAT for PRotos, Prusa and other reprap 3D printers
  • 272.51 Euro incl. 19% VAT for the X400 version
  • 118.94 Euro incl. 19% VAT as an upgrade from the X400 DD extruder to the X400 DD2 extruder

Yeah, I don't get it, it looks functionally the same as dozens of DD extruders...

Err, it's a direct drive extruder is it not? The same kind like the hundreds already on thingiverse? I really don't see the special appeal of this particular one.
