To celebrate the launch of DesignSpark Mechanical, RS Components and Allied Electronics are spurring engineers into creative combat with an invitation to pit their design skills against each other using DesignSpark Mechanical, the companies' new free 3D design software.

The challenge is set for engineers of all backgrounds and disciplines to create an innovative, original design that takes into account the principles of mobility, accessibility or green living as key features of the end product. The aim of the Take on some of the world's top designers for your chance to win £5,000!

challenge is to urge all engineers to road test the software DesignSpark Mechanical.

The engineer responsible for the most popular design, as voted for by the DesignSpark engineering community, will receive the top prize of £5,000 and the first ever Ormerod 3D printer created by RepRapPro. Two runners-up will each receive a prize of £2,500.

To take part in the challenge, participants need to simply download the software, create a 3D representation of their design, and submit the final idea by uploading it to DesignShare, where each idea will be posted and votes will be cast.

Design experts taking part in the challenge include Trevor Baylis (OBE) - inventor of the iconic wind-up radio, Adrian Bowyer (RepRapPro), Justin Hendrickson (SpaceClaim), Jude Pullen and Tien Pham (Arduino), as well as participants from industry leading manufacturers TE Connectivity, Schneider Electric etc.

All entries must be received by 17:00 GMT on 22 November 2013.
