Nowadays children can make and customize their own toys. Makies Doll Factory offers an app to help children create dolls and get them 3D printed; and Blokify, a simplified 3d modeling iOS application allows kids to easily build custom and 3d print anything they can imagine. And now LA based startup Mico Studio releases Monstermatic on the App Store so that kids of all ages can engage in creative play.

In September last year LA based startup Mico Studio introduced Monstermatic, the first free mobile game app that allows users to create and 3D print custom designed monsters. Mico Studio launched the Monstermatic on Kickstarter and raised more than $30,000 to complete the final stages of development.

Monstermatic is a free iPhone and iPad app and it provides a quick, fun and easy way to design monsters and unleash them into the world through 3D printing technology. Released in the US, the app features 10 animated monsters, each with a unique personality and swappable parts, such as horns, hats, teeth and eyes for children to design, to play with, and share with their friends through social media.

Similiar as the Talking Tom Cat apps, kids can talk to their monster and listen to it repeat what it said in it's own funny way. They can also push it, tickle it, shake it, make it fall and make it dance. Monstermatic also includes a range of animations - "Watch your monster explode, shoot with a paintball gun, smash a guitar and break your screen."

The monsters are fully customizable and 3d printable. Full color 3D printed 2" inch figurine cost $25.95 each - you can just send your creation to 3D printing and receive your figurine by mail a few days later.

Monstermatic is available for free for a limited time on the App Store.

The figures look pretty nice for the cost. I wonder if this venture is going to be profitable.
