MakerDays, a new initiative from Eindhoven in The Netherlands, launched in 14 cities across the globe with a worldwide 3D printing assignment. Using the global 3D Hubs' 3D printing network, in places like New York, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, Cape Town, Mexico City, Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, and Moscow, people will be kicking off MakerDays by printing a 3D version of the MakerDays logo by renown designer Michiel Cornelissen.
The MakerDays initiative aims to bring together Makers of all stripes – from professionals in the manufacturing industry to enthusiastic hobbyists – to highlight new possibilities in digital technology and provide the Maker community with both a physical and digital platform. The first edition of this event will begin on Thursday 27 March and run through Sunday 30 March in the Klokgebouw building in the Strijp-S district of Eindhoven.
The city of Eindhoven is the home of Phillips and has been an important city for technological development and innovation in the manufacturing industry. Building on this rich manufacturing tradition, MakerDays Eindhoven highlights the city's position as a prominent node in the network of the worldwide making culture.
The Maker Movement is evolving rapidly worldwide due to new technology and the falling prices of things related to 3D printing, the internet of things, and robotica. Today, professional-grade technological equipment is migrating from offices to hubs, homes, basements, and garages – MakerDays Eindhoven wants to reach out to Makers working from professional and private venues alike.
The program for MakerDays Eindhoven is growing fast – right now plans include activities like Manufacturing events, 3D Printed Electronics, and Additive World. Local Maker groups like STRP Share – which is a mini Maker Fair – as well as Hackathon and the Discovery Factory will also be joining in Eindhoven's MakerDay festivities.
MakerDays welcomes feedback and participation, so if this initiative interests you, then consider contacting the group in Eindhoven for more information or to print your own MakerDays 3D logo.
