Skiers often need to spend time to get "fitted" for new ski boots. Sometimes they even need custom work done to the boots before they ski them. But now a company wants to bring skiers a more comfortable experience by launching an app that will allow people to create 3D-printed insoles.

British start-up ALPrint's app will let you create cheap, bespoke 3D printed ski boot insoles by taking cellphone photos of your feet. The dimensions of the foot are calculated from these pictures and then matched by an algorithm to a database of foot profiles. This information is then analyzed by ALPrint and their 3D printers will create perfect fitting insoles and send out to you.

Now you can individualize the boots with these 3D printed insoles to make them more comfortable and even better performing.

"If you can't afford £500 for a new pair [of boots] then you can go into any rental shop, put your own insole in and still get an increased degree of comfort," commented Chris Balmer of Heriot-Watt University, one of ALPrint's founders. ALPrint will charge around around $40 for this service, says Balmer.
