Imagine if everything that we needed was scaled down to a digital file and could be reproduced at any location; how would this change our relationship to physical objects?

Image an airline has lost your luggage, what can you do to get possessions back and get on with your relaxing? Designer Janne Kyttanen who continues to shape the future of consumer 3D printing as Creative Director for 3D Systems has come up with a 3D printed Platform Bag and a series of 3D printable files that allow you to send your luggage in an email, travel the world unencumbered and arrive at your destination to find your luggage waiting for you.

Lost Luggage contains several items: Le69 Handbag, 4 in 1 Dress, Mashup Shoes, St Tropez Cuff, Drivers, Fat Shades, Superkitch and Love Buster. Each one is printed in one operation.

In the video below Kyttanen asked people to imagine a future in which data is design, in which products travel through the internet as code, produced on demand at any location.

"If products and design are distributed in the same way that images and music travel through the internet today, how would our perception of those objects change? Will democratization of manufacturing eliminate the need for mass production, bringing production closer and closer to the consumer, regardless of their location and economic status."

So if you lost your luggage you could simply print it out. Kyttanen believes this future is already within our reach.

Lost Luggage is part of the exhibition 'Janne Kyttanen' in Galerie VIVID in Rotterdam. In this exhibition Kyttanen is presenting several stories, about himself as a designer and about the future of 3D printing. A lot of big and small objects are on display from March 2 till April 20, 2014.

Where would craftsmanship, value and skill fit in? More instant gratification concepts if you ask me.

This is way too cool! The first real-world, good for everybody, 3D printed idea that I see. Sure everybody can 3D a bathtub wine-glass holder, but having a whole wardrobe 3D printed and customized to your body is king of surreal.
