Alexander Gessler wrote a small handy tool that converts 40+ 3D file formats to OBJ, STL and others. Supported input file formats include 3DS, FBX, Blender, OBJ, DXF, LWO, STL, PLY and more than 25 others. Output formats include Collada, 3DS, X, OBJ, PLY, STL (Text and Binary), JSON (Assimp2Json) and more.

Here is the procedure:

1. First you can upload your 3D model (up to 5 files with a total size of 50 MB) to the site. If the 3D model is split into several files (i.e. MD5, OBJ MTL files), make sure to upload all files.

2. Once you have done with the upload, you can choose the target format(s), such as stl, stlb, colada, obj, 3ds, ply, json. You can select as many as you like.

3. Press Start to begin the conversion. Your files will appear on the screen as soon as they're ready for downloading.

You can try and test this Online 3D Model Converter here. The service is totally free.

That site is worthless, after 2 weeks of trying I get nothing but error after error. First I can upload and convert, but no download because the site goes down. Site comes back up all files lost and you try and upload a single file to start over again and you get refused because of a 5 file limit and then you wait to try again and it repeats this over and over. Even with a single file I get no ability to download and refused for a 5 file limit.. It's so worthless I can't believe it left up and the author ignores any emails. Pure crap.
