Everyone's now aware of 3D printing. There are literally hundreds of desktop 3D printers emerging on the market, but most of them have very small build volume which limits the type of parts that can be printed. Earlier, Makerbot has found a method on how to build a model of an object larger than the build volume of a 3D printer, and filed a patent. But another company, the Indian startup Centre for Computational Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (CCTech), a CAD and CAM product development company, has come up with a new application 3DPrintTech that helps maker to build object larger than build volume of any 3D printer.

3DPrintTech is a free app and works as CAD plugin with Autodesk Inventor 2014, AutoCAD 2014 and SolidWorks 2014. 3DPrintTech is designed to print larger objects on small 3D printer quickly. The application can divide design of large object into small connectable components within few minutes. App also provides user option to control the cylindrical connectors as per his requirement. User can define the connector in terms of radius, length and taper angle. User also control the distance between the connectors, distance between connector and object surface.
Then 3DPrintTech app also provides the functionality to pack small objects in one print batch. 3DPrintTech app has a feature called '3D Packing' which collects those small components and packs them in given build volume. "In our benchmarking, we found that for many cases our 3D Packing helped to reduce the 3D Printing batches from 10 to 1. This is definitely going to help makers to print more objects in less time and less money." notes the team.
In addition, the app also provides an interface to add your custom printer and many utility functions such as Exporting processed objects to 3D printable STL file, Explode objects for quick inspection, scaling the object for unit conversion or fitting into printer.
Sandip Jadhav, (Co-Founder & CEO, CCTech) says, "3DPrintTech should help maker to improve productivity by great degree. It will also help maker to push envelope by making new large 3d objects. 3DPrintTech is developed using CAD application development framework known as Confluence Framework. Therefore it works for multiple CAD systems seamlessly. In future we would provide more choices of connectors, packing types and more CAD platforms".

Can this be used on freecad or openscad? Most 3d printers would be used by people at home with repraps and the like. The 3dprinttech splitting software looks like a brilliant app.

Perhaps a more accurate title of the Makerbot patent and this article should be something like 'Automated Model Divider Software'. Anyone can (and have been) use a CAD program to manually divide their large models into smaller parts for sometime. Because isn't that the whole point?

Great job. Because every one has access to these expensive apps... Totally missed the target audience. The pros who own Autocad Whatever can do the splitting themselves and the hobbyist don't have access to it :/
