Cincinnati 3D printing company 3DLT, a platform for 3D Printing As-a-Service, announced on Dec 12 that it has signed a licensing agreement with Big Tent Entertainment to design, sell and manufacture 3D printed products based on the character Domo-kun.

"Domo-kun" was created on December 22, 1998 as the character to mark the 10th anniversary of the start of a broadcasting satellite service by Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Japan's only public broadcaster. "Domo-kun" soon became popular among all age groups. In 2005, "Domo-kun" was the first Japanese cartoon program to be broadcast on Nickelodeon. Since then "Domo-kun" appears frequently in character items, picture books, video games, and "Domo-kun" programs have been broadcast in more than 170 countries and regions including the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Korea.

Starting today, Domo 3D printable products will be made available on the brand's social media sites and in select retail outlets. The first product to be offered is a Domo themed Christmas ornament. This ornament features 8 Domo Santas that are 3D printed in full-color sandstone. At just over 2.5 inches in diameter, this ornament is priced at only $15.99 on 3DLT.

"We're very excited to launch the licensing arm of our business with Big Tent Entertainment, NHK and Domo," says 3DLT CEO, John Hauer. The company has been talking to serveral companies about the licensing and this is the first licensing agreement for 3DLT. "We see licensing as one of 3D printing's 'killer apps' and believe our platform gives brand partners a significant competitive advantage in capitalizing on that opportunity."

Rich Maryyanek, Partner and CMO Big Tent Entertainment, added:"Domo has always been a fan-driven brand, loved by those who like to experience the character in their own personalized way."

"This is the perfect way for the Domo fan to celebrate the holidays."

3DLT says that it will continue to build on its relationship with the Domo Production Committee by designing other Domo branded products in multiple categories. Those products will be offered through 3DLT's retail partners.
