Back when they launched their Indiegogo campaign for a 3D scanner in Spring of 2013, Matter and Form team probably had no idea that less than two years later, they would be presenting their goods at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas alongside 3D printing industry heavyweights such as MakerBot and 3D Systems.

Alas, Matter and Form has arrived at CES with more than just their scanner; the company has also announced that they are gearing up to release a new online sharing platform for 3D content aimed at everybody from 3D printing enthusiasts and makers to engineers, video game designers and more.

Cashew is Matter and Form’s new and free online platform that will let users upload their 3D files from any source and then share them freely to colleagues, friends and family members.  The user will also have the option to put a pricetag on their models in the cast that they may want to setup an online store with 3D printable files... similar to Shapeways.

Additionally, the platform also allows for the end user to convert a 3D file type into a variety of file formats (specifics not known at this time) for taking into a 3D modeling program, or the user has the option to embed or publish their work so that others can view their models directly from within a web browser.

One of the Matter and Form’s key drivers when developing Cashew was to make it as seamless as possible for helping designers attract prospective employers and purchasers who may want to buy the models.  While it may not be as in-depth as other model sharing sites aimed at bringing in prospective employers, its ease-of-use will surely make it a tool worth considering for a wide variety of users... many of whom are new to the 3D content creation space anyways.

While the platform is excellent news for current users of the Matterform 3D scanner who want to stay within the Matter and Form ecosystem, it is still unknown at this time how Cashew is aiming to separate itself from other online 3D content sharing platforms including Thingiverse. Regardless, the Cashew platform will be able to work independently from the rest of the Matter and Form ecosystem in the case that a user isn’t working with a Matterform 3D scanner.

Cashew is expected to launch in the Spring of 2015 and is available to preview at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this week.

That must be why the Mac software was a year late and doesn't even work. They should stick to one thing at a time. we didn't ask for another thingiverse. we asked for working software.

Matterform (Photon) was renamed silently into Matter and Form scanner and just as silently Adam is gone from the company. I believe a year already.. So I think only Drew was part of developing Cashew.
