Back when he launched the original Cobblebot 3D Printer in April of 2014, founder and CEO of the 3D printer startup Jeremiah Clifft was able to impressively raise over $375,000 on Kickstarter, which was nearly $275,000 over his original campaign goal of $100,000.  

The entrepreneur, who aims to design and build high performance and low cost 3D printers, wanted to “redefine expectation with the first low-cost large build area (15 in x 15 in x 15 in) consumer 3D printer” when he launched the original Cobblebot 3D printer.  

Aiming to capitalize on the success of his original large build Cobblebot, Clifft has turned the table and has just launched a new Kickstarter campaign for a micro 3D printer that he has dubbed “The Cobblebot Little Monster 3D Printer”.

The Little Monster, which was named in part due to its “frighteningly awesome performance” as a small-sized 3D printer, was designed to provide an affordable desktop 3D printer experience capable of high speeds, high resolution, and a very low cost of ownership.  

The easy-to-assemble 3D Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printer features a 6 in x 6 in x 6 in build area and is expandable up to 10 in x 10 in x 10 in.

The sub-$200 3D printer is designed to primarily print using PLA and ABS filament, however an upgradeable hotend can be purchased to allow printing in other commonly-used materials including Nylon, Polycarbonate, Flexible Filament, LayWood, PVA and HDPE.

Aside from the low cost, perhaps what makes the Little Monster 3D Printer the perfect desktop 3D printer for casual users is its easy assembly and calibration, which can be done in roughly an hour compared to the better part of a day for more complex Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) 3D printer models.   

“The Little Monster is an extremely simplistic design with few parts which makes assembly a breeze,” adds Clifft.  “You can follow our detailed written instructions (with pictures) or follow along with our video build guide.”

While the Little Monster’s design is already completed and ready to be manufactured and shipped, Clifft will continue to iterate on the design and create custom parts through the end of the Kickstarter campaign including industrial design improvements.  All of the parts in the final design will be injection molded for consistency and quality with the option to have metal parts in a more expensive model.

I received mine and the assembly is insane with very little instructions. Their assembly guide is a draft and missed on some vital info. I had issues and a 2 week discussion they wanted to waste more time via insult and terrible service, telling me they'd "clean them" for me, let alone the missing part I told them about on day 1. They thought I was an idiot I even told them my background in the beginning and what I had done, how long, etc. All around terrible experience, nice parts though. Fact of the matter is, if you order anything from them, expect it to be parts with little or no instruction with bad (and very slow) responses and information. All of the other business I've dealt with in the 3D Printer world have been pretty great so far, even helping out where ends just didn't meet. I was appalled to say the least at what they had to say when I went through their 'support team' and wasted two weeks of my time. I found it cheaper to just order the parts replacements from another company than wasting more time and money on a deplorable company. I had given them the benefit of the doubt though, we did see the first backers printers finally start coming in, and this one seemed to be going smoothly, maybe they got more than they could handle. I don't know, but either way, I won't be recommending or using them for commerce that's for sure.

For What it's worth, I know this might be a bit late, but just to correct your misinformation. Yes, it isn't their google+ page or account. If it was all the criticism would likely be removed as they had done on their forums. You don't need to be a customer to find out that customers aren't receiving support. He wasn't claiming that he wasn't receiving support, he was claiming that the backers weren't. As far as I can tell, they sent out cease and desist letters to try to silence anyone with valid criticism as they want to make money and people pointing out that they are full of shit wont help. They promised a wonderful product, with high quality parts and instead sent out cheap crap. They have blatantly lied to their backers claiming that they would be sending out to the backers, and then after all the backers have theirs, they would send to the pre-orders. They claimed they had 3 sets of instructions back in December, yet have only just managed to deliver 1, and that was only significantly after the first people received their kits and sending out a draft set of instructions in between which only covered part of the build. The printer is below the 15" build volume, but allegedly they do offer instructions on how to fix that, but don't provide the parts to do so. They have stopped sending out wheels. They have sent out the wrong stepper drivers. They aren't sending out a promised power cord. They aren't sending out an LCD plate to anyone who didn't opt for the metal upgrade. Apparently they aren't sending out any custom plastic parts, so everyone is being upgraded to the metal frame supports and gantries and a bowden system (which indicates they never intended to deliver plastic parts and they could have intended to lure people in with a cheap printer only to pay a lot more on upgrades). The shipping cost they are charging is extortionate, charging twice the cost to actually ship the product, well over their original estimate. And even more disgusting, they change their T&C after people have ordered so they can send people kits rather than assembled 3D printers as promised and that all electronics will be deemed to arrive in working order so if it arrives dead you need to buy your own. And, if you do get a refund, they want to charge you $300 for it, and make you give up your kick-starter pledge (so it will cost $600 to get a refund of around $600). For pointing out their lies, they will happily defame you and accuse you of taking illegal actions against them. They also stated I would be receiving a refund and they wanted nothing more to do with me, but I am yet to see any indication of a refund. When I asked them about it they simply said they refuse to communicate with me. They are by far the most dishonest company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with and anyone providing them with good publicity or praising them is doing everyone else a huge disfavour.

I think is a great deal and be well worth it. They added a tier with dual extruders and heated bed. First kickstarter is fulling rewards. I think they just fell prey to the kickstarter, unrealistic timelines, when dealing with overseas manufacture, and fulfillment.

The Google+ community isn't affiliated with Cobblebot at all actually. Also odd that "William S" claims horrible support and then claims he didn't back the campaign. Horrible support for non-customers? Sad that trolls can so easily troll. I see why they went and filed all those defamation claims against people now.

Cobblebot's support is horrible - they barely responded to their backers during their previous campaign. I'm very glad that I pulled my funding and backed another printer instead. IMO, this company cannot be trusted, and reporting any "news" from them prior to seeing actual production units shipped out to customers is irresponsible to the point of negligence. I've relied on this site for the majority of my 3D information since I've found it - this tech is fundamental to my job, and news about it even moreso - and I'm extremely disappointed to see an article posted supporting a company that has yet to deliver on it's original promise. Please take greater care in monitoring the content you put out so as to maintain the reputation of this site.
