Feb. 13, 2015

After successful inauguration in London earlier this year, My Mini Factory announces today the launch of The My Mini Factory Academy in New York City in April 2015.

The My Mini Factory Academy is one of the first schools dedicated specifically to 3D Design and 3D Printing. Just last year, the world's first 3D printing college opens its doors in Guangzhou, China, and one of the most exclusive schools in India open its doors to 3D printing as well. Through these schools, My Mini Factory aims to provide a training platform for teachers, students and 3D printing enthusiasts, and they hope it will better prepare students for future careers.

This intensive 10 week course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of 3D printing. They will learn how to design in 3D, scan physical objects and then learn how to apply these skills in conjunction with the technology itself.

According to My Mini Factory, the course will place strong emphasis on hands on, real-world experience. It starts with an introduction to 3D design where students will be taught the basics and different techniques of designing, scanning and modeling. Students will gain a vast understanding of the 3D printing world, the different technologies, and the future applications within the industrial revolution.

Students will then learn the core skills of 3D design, 3D scanning and 3D printing. They will be instructed in various design software suites including SolidWorks, ZBrush and Rhino 3D. They will also be taught in depth, how to 3D scan and use various 3D printers. Students will gain full knowledge about overhangs and supports, optimizing files for 3D printing, troubleshooting, re-engineering to the product specifications and much more.

From the 8th week onward, students will work on their own practical project, with the help of The My Mini Factory team and teachers. They will use the newly acquired knowledge and their creativity to design and produce a prototype or a final product that they will present to a board of industry experts during an event at the end of the course.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to use the skills and contacts necessary to start their own business using 3D design and 3D printing should they so wish, says My Mini Factory.

The first session starts on the 6th April 2015 and registration is already open. Classes will take place Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm.
