Do you think you’re a be fun and original 3D designer? Then prove it to everyone by entering the Cuppy 3D design competition, launched by indie game developer Initive Inc and Autodesk. The goal of the competition? To use web-based design tool Autodesk Tinkercad to craft your own personal interpretation of the bubbly and quirky Cuppy the Cupcake, mascot of the forthcoming Cupcakes and Critters game.

For those of you who’ve never heard it, Cupcakes & Critters is a genre-mixing tower defense game that will be released as a browser-based and app game later in 2015. While tower-defense games aren’t new, you’ve never seen anything like this. In the words of the designers, ‘players protect a cute, customizable cupcake from hordes of critters using touch controls to crush enemies and strategically place defensive items on a map. Featuring a singleplayer mode as well as cross-platform multiplayer gameplay, players defend their own cupcake, or a cupcake neighborhood created with friends, against hordes of nasty critters that range from roaches to zombie dust bunnies.’ As a cupcake-inspired game, it features fun, playful Toy Story-esque designs for enemies, towers and tools like the especially devastating hamster ball.

The Initive team often works with Autodesk Maya LT, and Autodesk have decided to help them launch this fun competition. By using their free and user-friendly Tinkercad web-based 3D design tool, fans and designers are invited to create their own interpretation of maskcot Cuppy, and save it to the gallery with the tag “#Cuppy”. The prize you’ll be fighting for: a chance to have your characters featured in the final release of Cupcakes and Critters. For more details on entering the competition, go to the Tinkercad blog here.

As you might know, Tinkercad also offers support for 3D printable design through working with STL file formats, so this is also a perfect opportunity to 3D print your own Cuppy design. It is, in fact, exactly why the Cupcakes and Critters team started using Tinkercad themselves. So what are you waiting for? 3D printing is fun, but winning competitions with it is even better!
