Remember the M-One DLP 3D printer by MakeX? Launched on Kickstarter a year ago, this Chinese-made low cost stereolithography 3D printer was a huge hit in the 3D printing community for its ability to make budget resin printing possible. Raising more than $180,000 through the campaign, this interesting 3D printer was successfully shipped to its backers a few months ago. But the developers over at MakeX haven’t been wasting time, and are back for more with a new machine: the M-Jewelry, a high resolution, low cost UV 3D printer.
As its name suggests, the M-Jewelry has been specifically designed with the makers and designers of jewelry in mind, though the MakeX design time has told 3ders.org that it’s also a perfect 3D printer for various medical applications. ‘Our team never stopped working towards further development and better creation options. Fortunately, the M-Jewelry is coming! She is the second member of M series and will undoubtedly change the current 3D printer market,’ its developers tell us.
As they explain, the machine is essentially a smaller and more accurate successor to the M-One. ‘The M-jewelry has an adorable size of 270*250*380mm, as the pictures shows. She is small and exquisite with a side-opening door. Compared to competitors, you can see our evident advantages: The M-jewelry is lighter, has a small build volume, a high resolution and produces excellent layer thickness,’ they say.
Their 50 micron resolution makes the M-Jewelry a perfect designing tool for original and unusual jewelry, while it has an exceptionally long life expectancy as well: its UV-LED curing system should last for at least 20,000 hours (or more than 800 complete days of printing). It has reportedly also been designed with maximum convenience in mind: ‘Avoid the inconveniences of wired printing, print easily and free yourself from various cables. The M-jewelry is available for both wifi and USB. So if you prefer USB, no problem!’ they tell us. The M-Jewelry will also feature a 3.5 inch touch screen to make operation as easy as possible.
Really the only problem right now is that we will have to wait for the Kickstarter to launch before finding out more about the specifics of this promising 3D printer. As the MakeX team tell us, the early bird special will be priced at less than $2500, though the exact prices won’t be revealed until a later date. The Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign itself is set to begin either in late June or July, with shipping to begin at the end of 2015 (if funding is successful). ‘We have gotten much experience during the former mass production, so we believe this time the delivery will be much smoother,’ they say.
