As we start to see more people in the 3D printing community voice their needs for multiple material capabilities, it’s not just the material suppliers who are listening; the 3D printer manufacturers are listening, too.  Additionally, since more projects than ever are requiring larger build volumes, we’re also starting to see an increased interest in scaling up from average-sized desktop 3D printers to large format 3d printers as the prices come down.

Today, Brooklyn, New York’s gCreate LLC has announced that they’ve been listening to the needs of the 3D printing community and are releasing what are arguably the most versatile and affordable 3D printers for their build volume: the gMax Printer 1.5+ and the gMax Printer 1.5 XT+.

Both the gMax Printer 1.5+ and the gMax Printer 1.5 XT+ boast massively larger print volume capabilities than those from their competitors with a total of 16’’ x 16’’ x 12’’ and 16’’ x 16’’ x 21’’ build volumes (the 1.5 XT+ features twice the build volume of the Makerbot Z18 (2,592 cubic inches) while being less than half the price).  Additionally, features such as swappable beds and tool heads make the gMax Printer 1.5+ and the gMax Printer 1.5 XT+ much more functional and customizable for a number of additive manufacturing needs.

While each of the 3D printers are built for different build volumes, they both include the gMax base extruder, which has the impressive capability of printing a wide variety of today’s common 3D printing materials including PLA, ABS, Ninja Flex, Carbon Fiber, water soluble PVA, Woodfill, Bronzefill, Stainless Steel, and many others.

For those who might remember, gCreate was founded after successfully launching their original flagship product, the gMax 3D Printer on Kickstarter in 2013.  Among other impressive projects that have been created with the printer include a full-sized Age of Ultron helmet from prop artist Michael Ruddy.   Since then, the company has expanded out of a Brooklyn apartment and into a manufacturing space in Brooklyn’s up and coming Industry City complex that many tech startups call home.  Along the way, the company has been listening attentively to feedback from their users regarding how they can improve their 3D printing experience.  Company Co-Founder and Chief Designer Gordon LaPlante has implemented a number of these design upgrades including a laser cut all-aluminum bed carriage that allows for trouble-free calibration and bed swapping, as well as a metal x-axis extruder plate for simplified levelling and tool head changing.  Additionally, a reduction in the overall number of plastic parts in favor of metal parts has dramatically reduced the company’s environmental footprint.

“Since starting our company in October 2013, we made a conscious decision to focus on a loyal and dedicated customer base as well as on operations and R&D rather than marketing and pure sales,” explains LaPlante.

“The result is an amazing product that is ready for wide distribution.”

According to the company, all printed parts will be available for free to download as Open Source on the company’s website for customers or anyone who wishes to 3D print their own parts. Additionally, a dedicated section featuring free and high quality 3D models will also be available. Upgraded metal parts will soon be available for existing customers via the newly launched gCreate online store.

As for the impressive price of the new 3D printers?

Both the gMax Printer 1.5+ and the gMax Printer 1.5 XT+ will ship fully-assembled, calibrated and tested with the gMax 1.5+ starting at $2495 and the gMax 1.5 XT+ starting at $2995.  In comparison, many existing desktop 3D printers are sold for the nearly the same price and feature considerably less build volumes and limited expansion capabilities.  Ultimately, this makes both printers among the lowest price per cubic inch in the entire global desktop FDM 3D Printing market.

In addition to the printer, those who purchase from gCreate will receive free shipping within the US, accessories, and a complimentary full spool of top quality Colorfabb PLA filament. All printers come with the ability for a dual extruder add-on and carbon fiber printed parts option for stronger parts with a beautiful finish.

“Offering competitively priced, high quality 3D printers with large build volume capabilities has always been at the heart of the gCreate ethos,” adds Anna Lee, who Co-Founder.

“That we can now offer our latest and greatest printers fully assembled, calibrated, and pre-tested while providing free shipping and maintaining all operations in-house is a testament to how much we care about the integrity of our business and how excited we are to provide quality products to this amazing community of creators.”
