As more users turn to exploring what’s possible with 3D printing, we’re naturally starting to see an increase in users who are also interested in customizing their 3D printers for a variety of applications, too.

While some of the more involved projects allow users to literally create their own 3D printers from nothing, other projects or modifications involve nothing more than simply swapping out a single part on an existing 3D printer system.

Among others, the Simple V1 from TooytooSimple in Barcelona, Spain aims to be the best extruder and hotend for the growing community of reprap and commercial 3D printer users who are looking to improve performance, increase print resolution and virtually eliminate clogging issues and loss of step in the X axis.

According to the company, the idea of designing an extruder came from their own frustrations with existing extruder designs - many of which came with existing consumer-level 3D printers.

“The idea of designing an extruder ourselves is because the market always comes extruders much problem when printing, gets stuck, not extruded filament damage or broken easily support extruder by being printed on plastic, the hotend isn't firm in printing, loses step in the X axis when it prints, etc,” explains the company.

“With Simple V1, this problem is solved instantly; the whole structure is made from metal including a metal bracket to secure the X-axis.  Additionally, our stainless steel hotends can easily print with no jamming issues whatsoever and without damage.”

In total, the new design features a number of features that make it a compelling product for the price.  Among others, these features include an all-metal design for use with high temperatures, micro-linear bearings for maximum durability and performance, a compact design for simplified adaptability 1.75mm or 3mm filament and a support extruder with drive gear of filament included and assembled.

“To help in cleaning different print nozzles, we have several sizes to choose; it is advisable to choose the cleaning hot end with its size of nozzle chosen.  For the Simple V1 , you can also get a 10-piece kit that includes all of the sizes,” explains the company.

Currently, TooytooSimple is looking to raise $22,220 on Kickstarter to help support manufacturing - and they have a special offer for those who get in on the backing early; if you’re one of the first to donate at the $33 level, you’ll get a Simple V1 before the price goes up to $50 with an estimated shipping date of February 2016.

Looks to me like a standard direct extruder assembled from standard Chinese parts. Their only "invention" is assembling the extruder on a metal bracket, together with the bearings. $50 is about the price you pay for all of the components, if you order them in quantities. This isn't any invention, but just a collective order. Maybe they'll identify and correct the usual quality issues in cheap Chinese parts, before sending them out, but maybe they won't.
