Materialise announced today that they will be launching new metal 3D printing production services in Bremen aimed at industrial customers in the aerospace, automotive and industrial manufacturing industries.
The Metal Competence Centre in Bremen will open in late October, and will specialize in manufacturing parts in titanium (TiAl6V4), which has a wide range of applications for prototypes and end-use parts in various industries. The opening of this German branch marks the Belgian company’s next step in becoming “the most complete factory for 3D printing.”
Materialise, a global leader in additive manufacturing software and 3D printing services, has been building its expertise in metal 3D printing for some time, having developed metal additive manufacturing software, and released build processors with leading metal OEMs. They also recently announced the availability of aluminum 3D printing and revealed an in-house metal printing project, which saw a medical production line being installed and their headquarters.

"In terms of commitment to the German market, this is an important step," said CEO Fried Vancraen. "It allows us to manufacture parts close to our customers in aeronautics and the industrial goods industry. With this scalable site in Bremen, we clearly put metal printing on the agenda as a strategic part of our industrial offering."
Materialise’s main factory is located in Belgium, with three additional factories in Poland and the Czech Republic, making the metal production facility in Germany Materialise’s fourth industrial production unit in Europe. Their entire metal 3D printing activity will be incorporated into the Bremen office, which has been focused on metal printing and metal printing software since the company acquired Marcam Engineering in 2011. Metal production will be led by Ingo Uckelmann, who has a background in metal printing for dental applications and joined Materialise in 2015.
TiAI6V4 Titanium, which Materialise will offer in this new office, is one of the most well known metal alloys, as it combines excellent mechanical properites with a very low specific weight. The metal is corrosion resistant and used in a variety of demanding engineering environments, including aeronautics.
"This operation solidifies the Bremen office's role as Materialise's Metal Competence Center,” said Managing Director Macrus Joppe. “Our team of specialists already have a strong understanding of the needs and challenges of metal AM and by starting this new production line, we will be able to expand our knowledge and apply it to the next generation of software while also offering high-quality manufacturing in titanium to our industrial customers."
