The long list of applications for 3D printing in the medical dental industry continues to grow, and Stratasys is at the forefront of designing groundbreaking technology that lets dentists 3D print precise, life-like color models of teeth and gums, for use in training, implant testing, diagnoses, and other uses. Today, Stratasys introduces the Objet500 Dental Selection 3D Printer for larger dental and orthodontic labs, bringing high throughput to Stratasys exclusive multi-color, multi-material dental modeling.
Unveiled in March of this year, the Objet260 Dental Selection 3D Printer was designed to take digital dentistry realism and precision to the next level with increased model accuracy, full-color printing and multi-material support. Now, the Objet500 magnifies those same capabilities, introducing a bigger build volume, incredible resolution, and Stratasys’ influential multi-color, multi-material 3D printing technology. The large build area will allow labs to dramatically increase throughput, while its triple-jetting technology means that multiple applications can be combined in a single run.
According to Stratasys, the Objet500 Dental Selection is “an especially attrattive solution for larger dental restorative and orthodontic labs that are interested in implementing digital dentistry end-to-end, from intra-oral scanners to realistic models.”
Combining Stratasys flexible and rigid PolyJet dental materials (including VeroDent, VeroDentPlus, VeroGlaze and Clear Bio-Compatible), the Objet500 is capable of producing dental models with gum-like softness and color, a range of natural tooth shades, and nerve canals or other anatomy is contrasting materials. Some application examples include implant testing on stone models with a gingival mask that mimics the look and feel of real gums; models requiring gum-like materials, even mixed with rigid features; and jaw models 3Dprinted directly from CBCT sans data with high-definition tooth, root and nerve canal anatomy rendered in contrasting materials.
The Objet500 3D printer has a build volume of 490 x 390 x 200mm, can produce horizontal build layers as fine as 16 microns, and has accuracy levels of 20-85 µm for features below 50mm and accuracy levels up to 200 µm for full model size. It can print in either high quality resolution, or high-speed resolution, and is compatible with all open format color intra-oral scanners. Previously, Stratasys also released the Objet Eden260VS Dental Advantage 3D Printer designed for mid-size dental labs and mid-to-large-sized orthodontic labs, with the added soluble support option, previously unavailable on PolyJet dental systems.
