Beijing Tiertime Technology, manufacturers of the UP and Inspire series of desktop and industrial 3D printers, today announced the global launch of its latest consumer 3D printer, the ultra-sleek, portable and connected UP Mini 2, at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

Designed as an easy-to-use, consumer-ready 3D printer for use by students and educators, families or individuals, the UP Mini 2 retains a lot in common with the first generation Up Mini 3D printer, including a 120 x 120 x 120mm maximum print size, an enclosed build chamber, and a heated build platform. However, the UP Mini 2 features five major upgrades that Tiertime—the Chinese partner to Afinia—hopes will significantly improve the 3D printing user experience.

The first new key feature is the capability of 3D printing in 0.15mm layer thickness thanks to a new mechanical design—the first generation UP Mini could only print up to 0.20mm. The UP Mini 2 also features automatic calibration, unlike the original model.

The UP Mini 2 is also the first desktop 3D printer in the UP Series line to use touch screen control and WiFi support, enhancing the 3D printing user experience and enabling the user to control their 3D printer from various locations via mobile apps. Internal LED lighting allows users to easily monitor printing process.

In order to reduce 3D printing air emissions and provide a healthier 3D printing environment, making it as safe as possible to use in classrooms or at home, the UP Mini 2 includes a built-in HEPA air filtration system; and finally, its completely redesigned all-white look includes an aluminum handle and a separate spool container with a built-in tool box, making the UP Mini 2 more portable, functional, and much more sleek and stylish than its predecessor.

"UP mini 2 has the latest features available on 3D printing market, and it has also fine tuned those features to provide the best 3D printing experience. UP mini 2 is a consumer-oriented 3D printer for students at schools, kids at home and 3D printing fans around the world. We have given much thought about intuitive user interfaces to create more consumer friendly 3D printing environment," said Tiertime's CEO, Allen Guo.

Though no price has yet been announced for the UP Mini 2 3D printer, which will be available for purchase worldwide only in Q2 2016, the first generation UP Mini model currently retails for roughly $899, and with affordable, consumer 3D printers leading the global 3D printing market, hopefully the UP Mini 2 remains in a similar price range. The new 3D printer will also come with the same 12-month manufacturer warranty as all UP series 3D printers.
