Chinese 3D scanner and 3D printer manufacturer SHINING 3D has named Minnesota-based 3D printer manufacturer Afinia 3D as the official U.S. distributor of its newly released EinScan-Pro Multi-functional Handheld 3D scanner. Through the distribution deal, SHINING 3D hopes to make its advanced 3D scanning technology more accessible to the growing 3D education market.
Since its founding in 2004, SHINING 3D has become a leader in top-of-the-line 3D scanning and 3D printing equipment for the medical, industrial and consumer markets. The company’s product range includes more than ten 3D scanning and 3D printing solutions.
On the 3D printing side, these include the consumer Einstart-S and Einstart-L FDM 3D printers, as well as large-volume OEM 3D printer manufacturing and two industrial SLA 3D printers for prototyping and rapid manufacturing applications. In 2015, Autodesk Asia ordered 6,300 of SHINING 3D’s desktop 3D printers.
However, it’s the company’s 3D scanners that have truly earned it widespread industry recognition. These include the OpticScan-3M and OptimScan 5M for reverse engineering and high accuracy 3D design; the Freescan X3 for portable, handheld scanning; the range of AutoScan 3D scanners for dental and jewelry design applications; and the flagship EinScan 3D scanner series, which includes the desktop EinScan-S for educational and consumer applications, and finally, the company’s shining jewel, the EinScan-Pro for professional 3D designers.
“In our scanner product line, the EinScan series is no doubt the most successful products,” explained SHINING 3D’s Alice Lee in an interview with Threeding.com. “EinScan-S is oriented to provide high quality 3D data for thousands of desktop FDM printer users, who suffer from shortage of high quality 3D contents and difficulty on learning complicate 3D design software.”
“EinScan-Pro is a new concept of 3D scanning technology, a game-changer, which combines handy scanning and industrial scanning together to provide full capability to professional 3D designers,” she continued. “It is also the first multi-functional 3D scanner in the world.”
The EinScan-Pro Multi-functional Handheld 3D scanner was unveiled earlier this year at CES 2016. With four 3D scanning modes (handheld rapid, handheld HD, automatic, and free scan) and accuracy down to 0.05mm in a single scan, it was indeed quite an exciting new product.
Through its new partnership with Afinia 3D, SHINING 3D now hopes to make this “game-changing” 3D scanner as accessible as possible to the public—and particularly, to the educational market.
"We focus on providing high capacity 3D technology with better user experience and lower cost, making it affordable to everyone, not just targeting the industrial professional users who are trained to handle complex technologies," said Mr. Li, CEO of SHINING 3D, in a statement regarding the agreement. "We put more than 10 years of industrial 3D scanning knowledge into making this professional and consumer grade cost product, providing easy user experience and rich functionality at high accuracy, making the 3D scanning process easier and full of fun. EinScan-Pro will allow users to create high quality 3D content and 3D printing and VR applications efficiently."
“We’ve had great interest in the EinScan-S and are excited to offer the EinScan-Pro to educators and engineers,” said John Westrum, Afinia 3D’s Vice President and Educational Channel Lead.
According to SHINING 3D, the company has helped more than 5000 educational clients worldwide, from K12 to colleges, universities, and technical schools, through its 3D scanning and 3D printing solutions. “We believe education is the entrance to the main consumer market,” confirmed Lee.
SHINING 3D's 3D scanning and 3D printing solutions are already used thousands of educational settings
She added that on the industrial side, clients include Bosch, GM, and Panasonic, and that its AutoScan 3D scanners are distributed to medical institutes in more than 32 countries.
Afinia 3D is a division of Microboards Technology LLC, leader in specialized printing solutions. In particular, Afinia is known for its highly-rated H-Series 3D printer, H800 3D printer and desktop H480 3D printer. In addition to becoming the US distributor of the Einscan-Pro handheld 3D scanner, Afinia 3D also distributes SHINING 3D’s EinScan-S as the Afinia-branded ES360.
Both SHINING 3D and Afinia 3D will be attending RAPID 2016, a leading manufacturing trade show, to share and display their respective 3D printing and 3D scanning technologies. RAPID 2016 is taking place from May 17-19 in Orlando, Florida.
