Katjes Fassin, the confectionary supplier behind the Magic Candy Factory 3D printer, is bringing its candy-printing box of tricks to American shores. Katjes has teamed up with Dylan’s Candy Bar, which will set up the candy 3D printer in select stores this month. Online sales will commence in June.

The Magic Candy Factory 3D printer is fast becoming the most exciting candy creation system in the world—and you don’t need a golden ticket to see it in action! After setting up shop in Berlin, Dubai, and Dublin, Katjes is now bringing its additively manufactured edibles to Dylan’s Candy Bar, Dylan Lauren’s nationwide chain of boutique candy stores. The deliciously innovative 3D printer will be popping up in select Dylan’s Candy Bar locations this month, while online shoppers can get a taste of the action starting in June, when Dylan’s Candy Bar will start selling customizable 3D printed treats through its online store.

After becoming the exclusive U.S. partner of Magic Candy Factory, Dylan’s Candy Bar will soon be able to offer its customers the kind of personalized printed gummy treats that have already had taste buds tingling from Ireland to the United Arab Emirates. The unusual Magic Candy Factory 3D printer, which can create custom candies in under five minutes, will offer eight different colors and flavors, 100 fun and creative designs, the ability to add text, and an optional “magic” finish such as glitter or fizzy dust.

To sink your teeth into some of this magical 3D printed candy, you’ll first have to stump up $20, which will be the flat rate for any Magic Candy Factory treat at Dylan’s Candy Bar. The fun then starts with the design: using the simple tablet interface, customers can create their tasty masterpiece, which is then sent to the printer where the treat is created in three to five minutes. All gummy treats are vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free, as they are made with natural fruit and vegetable extracts. These ingredients are mixed together to create a special printable material, which solidifies slightly after it is printed on the FDM-style machine.

Dylan Lauren, daughter of fashion designer Ralph Lauren and now a 14-year candy store veteran, is excited about the prospect of bringing the gummy-dispensing 3D printer to her stores. “Magic Candy Factory is an incredible innovation,” she said. “Dylan's Candy Bar has been excitedly watching the trends in candy personalization. We can't wait to dazzle our customers with the magic creativity of Willy Wonka's factory, merged with modern day technology!”

“The Magic Candy Factory is a one of a kind innovation and we are so excited to bring our 3D printed confections to the USA,” added Melissa Snover, Managing Director of Magic Candy Factory. “I have been a fan of Dylan's Candy Bar since I started in the confectionery industry 6 years ago. Their incredible experimental retail environment and 'customer comes first' service make them the absolute perfect fit for the magical innovation we developed.”

Katjes Magic Candy Factory and Dylan's Candy Bar will launch their collaboration during the Sweets & Snacks Tradeshow in Chicago on May 24th, 2016. The Magic Candy Factory will also debut at select Dylan’s Candy Bar locations on the following dates, with a “nationwide consumer weekend celebration” set to take place June 9-10.

  • New York City, 3rd Avenue (flagship) and Union Square locations: Friday, May 20
  • Chicago: Monday, May 23
  • Los Angeles: Saturday, May 28
  • Miami: Wednesday, June 1

Great idea and lots of fun, but - TWENTY dollars to make a few gummy candies? That's exorbitant.
