Ohio-based fashion tech company Mode++ has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for their first product, a 3D printed customizable video jewelry piece. Yes, that’s right, a piece of jewelry that is capable of playing videos of your choosing for everyone to see. The product, fittingly called Memento, is meant to function as a video-keepsake that you can wear, or as a way to showcase your own designs to others.

Founded by fashion technologist Margarita Benitez and designer Markus Vogl, Mode++ is setting out to make a name for itself in the fashion tech industry in the hopes of bringing everyday fashion to another (more technological) level. With their very first product, Memento, we doubt they’ll have trouble getting noticed.

Essentially, Memento is a pendant equipped with a TinyScreen+ that is powered by the TinyCircuits TinyDuino platform, which allows it to effectively store and play video footage in a tiny, wearable format. The Arduino compatible TinyCircuits TinyDuino, which was developed locally in Ohio, features a Atmel SAMD21 ARM processor, a 96x64 pixel OLED display with 16-bit color depth, a TinyShield expansion connector, a built in micro USB connection, and power switch, regulator and on board lithium battery management.

Memento is also easy to use. The tiny wearable comes with a micro SD card on which you can store 8GB of video footage, which means you’ll simply have to convert your video files to a TinyScreen+ format and upload them onto the micro SD card. To make conversion as simple as possible, Mode++ has even developed an online conversion script through their website. When you’ve successfully uploaded the converted videos to the  micro SD card, you can insert it into the Memento, which will begin playing the videos in sequence. The battery, which can be fully recharged with a micro USB cable in just over 2 hours, should last about 4 hours, which Mode++ says “is enough time to showcase your videos on a night out or event.”

Worn as a necklace, the sleek almost Tamagotchi like design is sure to grab people’s attention as well. The case, which is 3D printed from a white polyamide nylon, can be dyed in a number of colors to offer you a selection of nine. These include brown, yellow, blue, orange, pink, green, red, white, and black. The compact wearable measures 1.6” in height x 1.6” in width x 0.7” in depth. The 3D printed casing is also fitted with two holes of 3mm in diameter to fit the necklace cord through. If ordered, Memento comes with an 18” black rubber necklace, and comes equipped with a number of art videos to test the wearable right away.

The Kickstarter campaign for Memento is hoping to raise $7,500 in funding by June 23, 2016. In terms of rewards, you can receive the Memento in the color of your choice for $89 (super-early bird) or $99 (early-bird), the regular retail price has not been disclosed. To account for production quantities, Mode++ have staggered delivery, meaning that super-early bird backers can expect to receive their rewards in September 2016, while the first 1000 early bird backers can expect theirs and October 2016, and the next thousand in November 2016.
