Earlier this year, sneaker brand New Balance made headlines for its limited edition $400 Zante Generate shoe, which featured an innovative 3D printed midsole. Now, the popular brand is at it again with the release of its latest exclusive sneaker model, the MS066. The new shoe model, which features the same 3D printed midsole tech as the Zante Generate, will be exclusively sold in New York City at the Concepts boutique, and is retailing for $349.95.
Designed at New Balance’s Lifestyle Design Studio in Tokyo, the new 3D printed sneaker features a minimalist and very sleek aesthetic, which foregoes laces for a knitted and formfitting upper. As mentioned, the MS066 shoe also integrates New Balance’s innovative 3D printed midsole, which the company has been working on and testing for some years now, and which was first commercially introduced in the aforementioned Zante Generate.
The 3D printed midsoles were additively manufactured using selective laser sintering (SLS) technology, a process which essentially builds up an object layer by layer using lasers on a bed of powder. Presuming it resembles the Zante Generate’s 3D printed midsole, the US-made MS066 midsole will feature a specially designed honeycomb structure, optimized for cushioning and stability. The midsole was made from a flexible DuraForm TPU elastomer material offered by 3D Systems.
In the MS066, the 3D printed midsole has been attached to the seamless, double layered upper, and the shoe has been topped off with a quality leather heel counter and heel pull tab. To pull the shoe together, New Balance has also integrated some black reflective details on the sneaker’s collar.
If you want to get your hands on a pair of New Balance’s innovative MS066 sneakers, you might face a bit of a challenge, since they are only being released in an extremely limited run of just 40 pairs. As of today, however, you can enter a raffle to get a chance to buy a pair of the $350 sneakers, which are exclusively available through the Concepts store located at 225 Hudson St, New York City.
As part of the new MS066 collection, New Balance has also released two pieces of work-out apparel: a $350 dry technology pullover, and a pair of $300 double-layered quick dry leggings.
