Melissa Ng of Lumecluster has a unique and inspiring way of combining fantasy, design, and 3D printing. Her 3D printed dreamer masks leave little to be desired and her 3D printed Dream Regalia and Sovereign armor for women are both stunning and empowering. Not only are her designs amazing, however, but the message behind many of them is altruistic and even charitable. Recently, the New York-based artist unveiled a new 3D printed mana potion pendant, which she is selling in an effort to raise money for a friend suffering from cancer.

This is not the first time that the designer has put her work towards good, as earlier this year Melissa Ng also dedicated the proceeds from her specially designed health potion pendant to a friend’s father who was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. The health potion, for those unfamiliar with gaming terms, is the serum that can magically restore an in-game character’s health, while the mana potion helps to restore an in-game character’s energy and power.

As Melissa explains, her good friend and jazz pianist Elaine Hyojin Kim was recently diagnosed with stage three multiple myeloma cancer, a rare form of the disease that is formed by malignant plasma cells. Her treatment since the diagnosis in May 2016 has been rigorous and debilitating, and tragically, has prevented the talented musician from playing the piano. The mana potion pendant is therefore meant to help restore her energy and power, and hopefully will help bring her back to the music she is so passionate about.

Of course, Melissa is also selling the 3D printed mana potion pendant through the Lumecluster Shapeways store, where all proceeds will go to Elaine and help ease the financial burden of all the medical costs she is facing. As the designer explains, “It's wonderful that she's getting the medical attention she needs here in NY, but medical costs and surviving in NYC is ridiculously difficult and expensive. With this kind of heavy weight on her shoulders, reclaiming her music and her life is only becoming an increasingly strenuous challenge.”

The 3D printed pendant itself was designed to resemble a small potion vial, and incorporates Lumecluster’s iconic fantasy style. The small pendant features a floating star design and the entire structure of it was inspired by “waves of magical energy”. As mentioned, the pendant will be sold through 3D printing service Shapeways, and is available in a wide range of materials. These include a variety of colored plastics (which range in price from $18 to $20), steel with different plated finishes ($40 to $55), or fine metals such as bronze, silver, gold or platinum ($75 to $4,100)

If you do order the 3D printed mana pendant from Lumecluster’s Shapeways store, all of the profits will go to Elaine Hyojin Kim, and the pendant itself will be shipped directly from Shapeways. According to the designer, this means that a necklace cord or chain will not be included with the 3D printed pendant.
