Fashion-forward design brand Maison 203 will be unveiling a stunning new 3D printed clutch at the Paris trade show next week. Inspired by the Swiss capital Bern, the unique structural piece marks the latest effort in Maison 203’s growing line of 3D printed accessories, and another step in the ongoing cultivation of 3D printing in the fashion world.
3D printed sintered nylon makes up the intricate, winding layers of the Bern clutch, mimicking the complex urban layout of the famous Swiss city. The breathtaking accessory will be available in black, copper, and gold, and is already making a name for itself as part of Maison 203’s acclaimed Bern collection.
Founded by designers Orlando Fernandez Flores and Lucia De Conti, Maison 203 is a notable brand for its focus on the design, production, and distribution of 3D printed jewellery and accessories. Pieces are created using nylon, PLA, steel, and brass.
A self-described “young company exemplifying the ‘digital maker’ era,” Maison 203 says 3D printing becomes its own “raw material” in the brand’s design sensibility. Accessories are later hand finished and distributed to a niche market.
Yet as 3D printing becomes a mainstay in fashion and design – and with serious buzz already being generated around the Bern clutch – we can expect Maison 203 to soon make the jump from niche to mainstream. The Italian brand has begun to expand its retail market considerably in recent years, and currently boasts over 50 points of sale including top art museums such as the MoMA in New York.
And with industrial designer Odo Fioravanti at the helm of the Maison 203’s newest Bern clutch, we can expect the distinctive brand to continue making a name for itself. The acclaimed Milanese designer, armed with the mantra “form does matter,” has received dozens of awards since beginning his industrial design career in 2001. Most notably, Fioravanti won the XXII Compasso d’Oro Prize ADI in 2011 for his work with Pedrali. How exactly his new Maison 203 piece will continue to boost Fioravanti’s career remains to be seen, but we can be sure this designer does not take his commissions lightly.
At its official release at the Maison et Objet trade show in Paris, the Bern clutch will join the rings, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and cufflinks already available as part of Maison 203’s Bern collection. Catch the collection in person next week, from January 20-24 in Paris.
