Dec.8, 2012

Looks like our sexual culture is evolving and being altered by technology - companies are not only printing out prototypes sent by sex toy designers with desktop 3D printer, but also offering services to help you generate customized 3D sex toy.

3DEA, a Pop-Up store in New York featuring cutting-edge brands like Shapeways, Ultimaker, and UP! plus 3D printer, set up a very private 3DEA appointment on Monday December 10, 2012.

You and your loved one will be greeted with champagne and chocolate. After a quick tutorial on how to perfect your scan, you can then enter the ShapeShot 3D scanning booth. The ShapeShot cams will capture you in your full glory and these 3D images will be used to print out a prototype on a 3D printer. You will also get to select the personalized skin tone for precise replication.

Then the 3D printed model will be sent to New York Toy Collective, a high-end sex toy shop run by Chelsea Downs and Laura Parker. They will then have it replicated in silicon form. The whole package will cost you $250, which includes some quality time in one of Eventi Hotel's luxurious hotel rooms, outfitted with chocolates and champagne, and of course a "dishwasher safe, hypoallergic and very, very pleasurable" 3D printed sex toy.

3D printer gives people the power to create a thing in any shape, color, or size. It is still bit early for self-printed sex toys to enter the mainstream. Technically the 3D printed sex toys are too rough to be used and the materials are also not totally safe. But with time these technical hurdles will be eliminated, sex toys will undoubtedly become one of major products we create in our own homes.

Thanks Jim and David for the tip!
