We introduce you today GolemD DIY RepRap 3D printer from Poland. Designed by Michał (yru) Liberda, the GolemD DIY 3d printer has a unique box-frame design. You can use any material you like to create the box frame, plywood, steel, concrete or the default aluminium composite. The aluminum sheet box is rigid enough to provide support for motion axes which are located in the cold bottom or outside the box. Only the X axis remains in print area.

Summary:

  • Aluminum composite shell body
  • closed chamber - after installing front shield
  • 15x15x15cm working volume
  • 25x35cm footprint - plus Z contraption
  • yegahD extruder
  • single head or multiple with bowden
  • nema23 for Y and n17 for other axes by default
  • 12mm glides - uniform, stainless, aluminum or just some cold forged pipe.
  • slide linear bearings
  • bended aluminum single piece Xcart
  • only ca. 200g of printed parts
  • enclosed PSU and electronics - single ATX and Sunbeam/Teensylu in this case
  • plywood and molded versions to come
  • parametric openSCAD design
  • ultra easy to assemble and cheap to build

Check out the image below a test print with 30um layer thickness (some random artefacts are visible due to filament impurities and slicer glitches).

Another unique feature is heater mount. It's mounted with thermistor in separate block which enables fast nozzle switch and service (important if you like to change nozzle diameter, use low quality filament or just have bad luck):

"The project is focused on building a printer from a kit but with option to utilize as much as possible of the parts "already in the workshop" and recycled elements. It's not the fastest, best, or cheapest - but I think it delivers as much as possible for the price/effort." explains Michał.

Michael has released source files here on Thingiverse so feel free to download and build one yourself. "If someone plans to make and sell it would be nice to drop the author a line and to consider donating to RepRap.org - THE SOURCE!" writes Michał.

The instructions are here - Polish only for now.

The GolemD DIY 3D printer kits are available from Michael's site and its distributor 3d3.pl.

In Poland 3D printing is really popular nowadays. A lot of companies produce 3d printing machines and this is very good thing. I am using 3D printing machine in Multi Jet Printing technology (16um layer thickness). If you like this kind of 3D printing visit my website http://druk3dhd.pl

I saw it in action - works really well with ABS. And the design... well it looks like Sputnik. You may like it or not, but it prints well :D
