Polaris CEO Scott Wine discusses in a video interview with Bloomberg about the return of Indian motorcycles.
Polaris acquired Indian Motorcycle in 2011. With this acquisition, Polaris hopes to add one of motorcycling's legendary brands - Indian built America's first motorcycle - to its Victory cruiser and touring bikes.
Polaris launched its long-awaited redesign of the Indian motorcycle in August, spurring an advertising and public relations blitz with thousands of demo rides and tours of company factories. The new bikes will be in 200 Indian dealerships by early next year.
In the video below, Wine talks about what it took to get Indian motorcycles to market in 27 months and how 3D printing helps making the prototype. Polaris has several Stratasys 3D printers in-house and Polaris managed to use the 3D printers to build a prototype motorcycle for dealer's showroom in three months, while it took at least 15 months to do so 10 years ago.
