David Akers, developer of RappiDelta large format delta 3d printer, is raising funds for RappiDelta Jr., a low component count 3D printer.

The RappiDelta Jr. is entirely made of plastic, no belts, bearings or pulleys. All of the plastic parts were printed using the RappiDelta large format printer. The main frame contains 5 pieces parts that you can put together in under 30 seconds. The unique top frame of the printer has integrated motor mounts for the 3 motion steppers, sockets for assembly as well as cut outs for the Delta arms and provision for mounting the endstops.

Once assembled the printer has 17cm diameter and 17cm tall build envelope. The basic model has no bed heater so you are limited to printing PLA. Printing with ABS and other plastics will be available as an option.

The control board is a Sanguinololu running a modified version of the Marlin firmware designed for RappiDelta Jr. The testing done with the prototype showed some good results. Check out the following 3D prints made with a 0.5mm nozzle and printed at 200 microns.

The basic kit for RappiDelta Jr. is available for £275 on Kickstarter as an earlybird offer. Check out for info about RappiDelta Jr.'s campaign here.

Julio, thanks for your comments. I am not sure how you get to the conclusion that it is expensive. I challenge you to produce a single replica for $275, let alone producing many with the overhead of shipping and tooling costs. The point of the kickstarter is to develop tooling so that it can be mass produced, sure I could print hundreds of them but it would take YEARS to fulfil orders.

Looks amateurish and very expensive. A full plastic printer as he says should cost $275 USD not pounds. Of course, the final customer doesn't benefit from it being plastic, unless it was open source and replicable, but him, as the cost of manufacturing is lower. Well, I won't buy it.
