In 2011, a clutch of researchers at Britain's University of Exeter developed the first 3D chocolate printer (£2,888). This season consumers with a sweet tooth will be able to satisfy their cravings by printing their own elaborate cakes and candies thanks to a revolutionary new device - ChefJet and ChefJet Pro 3D printers from 3D Systems. But the technology doesn't come cheap, with the basic model costing $5,000 and the full color version is almost $10,000.

Quinn Karaitiana is passionate about the potential of 3D Printing and he introduced the first $99 3D chocolate printer 'ChocaByte' at CES 2014. The ChocaByte printer was designed only days ago before the trade show, but it is claimed to be the world's first affordable personalized chocolate 3D printer. The ChocaByte works with chocolate-filled cartridges. To use the printer you simply heat the chocolate cartridge in the microwave or hot water, then place the cartridge into the printer and press start. A chocolate print can be made in less than 10 minutes, says Quinn.

The ChocaByte will have its own website, so you will be able to download any choc design from online templates library or upload your custom design files to share with others. The printer will be small and compact to fit on the kitchen bench and it prints chocolate pieces that are 2 x 2 x 1 inches in size.

The ChocaByte 3D chocolate printer is priced at $99 and the cartridges sell for $2.50 each. Quinn plans to limit the production to only 500, "as we have to make each one by hand, one at a time." says Quinn. The delivery time will be about 1- 3 months.
