Endswell Jewelry combines 3D printing technology and traditional handicraft in their solid gold cast jewelry. Rachel Gant and Andrew Deming are a team of designers behind the Endswell Collection – a collection of distinctive, polished rings. The team is committed to respecting the past, yielding to the present, and looking forward to the future – this is expressed in the aesthetic of their work which uses 3D printing technology to create minimal, elegant designs that imbue their jewelry with meaning.
The team is based in San Francisco and have backgrounds in interior design, architecture, and graphic design. Their personal relationship has also influenced their work: "We are a couple but we are not married, and this actually does have significant impact on how Endswell came about... We've openly discussed marriage and the selection of rings that we encountered produced a glaring void – they just don't align with how we envision our lifestyle and relationship."
Endswell rings may be considered an alternative to traditional wedding rings. The designs in their collection feature geometric shapes and include no diamonds. The rings are sold as sets, and are more affordable with prices between 275 and 475 dollars. They come in rose, yellow, or white and may be cast in 10k 14k or 18k gold. The use of the 3D printing technology in this collection makes these rings modern to the literal core.
During an interview with Cool Hunting Gant and Deming expressed that the idea of relationships have been formative in their work: "With Endswell, a larger inspiration is at play in reconsidering how marriage should be seen in the modern day... We see the modern couple looking for a design that embodies the core element of a relationship. It's about unity, commitment, and support. You will notice a repeating theme in our rings of infinite surfaces and intersecting forms. These come about when designing from a vocabulary, when words take form."
By designing rings for friends, Gant and Deming realized that others shared their sentiments regarding what makes a meaningful wedding – as they told Cool Hunting: "We explored a bit deeper into marriage today and discovered the difficulty that same-sex couples encounter when searching for rings. Some purchase the same ring, some lean feminine, some masculine, but with everything labeled as male and female, the choices are unclear... We responded by designing mini-collections that have vocabularies relating to each other. Most are unisex, some a bit more feminine while others a bit more masculine. Couples can mix and match to have rings that relate as a pair yet speak to the individual's personality."
In order to make Endswell accessible to more than couples getting married, they've designed a line of everyday rings which are designed to comemmorate the present and last for good.
